All About Eyes

When I wake up in the morning, I often glance in the mirror and notice that the skin around my eyes is not what it used to be!  And let’s not forget the added bonus of puffiness and dark circles.  Dehydration, a night of too many cocktails, daily stress, and this most extremely dry winter can certainly wreak havoc on our skin- especially around the eyes.

Many struggle to look bright eyed with a jam packed day ahead of them and very little sleep the night prior.   Using a good eye cream is key to making the surrounding areas look and feel hydrated.    But how do we fake looking alert and awake?

I use Neocutis Lumiere Riche Bio-Restorative Eye Balm with PSP.  Here are a few facts about the product:

  • Ophthalmologist and Dermatologist tested.
  • Free of color additives and fragrance free.
  • Not tested on animals.

It reduces puffiness and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area.  I dab a small amount with my ring finger and tap lightly around the eye area and brow bone.   This is a quick and relaxing addition to your morning and evening skincare routine.    It appears to reduce the signs of stress and fatigue.

I have achieved supreme results with this eye cream.  When I thought there was nothing to diminish dark circles besides concealer- this product proved me wrong. I have been using this eye cream for over one year now and I have noticed that my eyes are firmer looking and the surrounding skin is hydrated.

Neocutis Lumiere Riche Bio-restorative Eye Balm is available for purchase at Derick Dermatology.   It will last you a few months as you only need a tiny bit to cover both eyes.

So on days when I still feel drab….I take a few lessons from my friend Chad Hayduk- head make-up artist and co-founder and creative director of 3 Custom Color Cosmetics in New York.

Chad’s make up tips:

  • Lighten the entire eye area first to eliminate any areas of darkness, including circles.
  • Make the eyes look bigger by using eyeliner on the bottom inner lid.
  • Use concealer to hide any darkness under the eye and also on the lid or as a primer.
  • Dab a bit of concealer on the inner corner of the eye to make it look more “awake” and add lightness to the area.
  • Avoid shadow colors on the eye that mimic the look of tiredness, discoloration and puffiness.
  • Avoid under eye circle colors such as grey, taupe or muddy shades as they can make eyes look more tired.
  • Choose satin finish over matte shadows to achieve a brighter appearance.
  • Always avoid color borrowing such as using shades of shadow that are too pink or red.  This tends to make the eyes look irritated even if they are not.
  • Use a clarifying pencil as a last step to remove any residue that may have fallen into the eye area, catching it along the inner rim.
  • Warm peachy tones give a bright eyed look with subtle light reflection
  • With a variety of eye shadow shades available, always look for a shade or 2 lighter than your actual skin tone as it will bring everything forward (light colors advance while dark colors recede)
