Celebrities and models we see every day in movies, on television, and the internet always seem to have enough eyelashes for three people. Their lashes look long, thick, and luxurious. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of makeup tutorials on the internet demonstrating tips and tricks to achieve a similar look for those of us not blessed with abundant lashes. The regimen is time-consuming and must be repeated daily to maintain the desired effect. What if there were a way to improve your natural lashes that didn’t require the application of tons of makeup and that would also be close to permanent?
In 2008 the FDA approved Latisse® for prescription use to promote eyelash growth. Like the hair on your head, your eyelashes go through various stages of growth and eventually fall out. Studies show that Latisse® promotes a longer stage of growth and increases the number of individual hairs. In addition, the drug helps the lashes to become thicker, longer, and darker.
Latisse® is provided in a liquid formula that is applied daily only to the base of the upper eyelashes. A supply of special applicators come with the product. Prior to each application you must clean away all eye makeup and creams and remove contact lenses if you wear them. Do not apply Latisse® to your lower lashes.
You can expect to see improvement in your eyelashes within four months of beginning treatment although some patients see some improvement within three to four weeks. It is important to note that stopping treatment will result in your eyelashes returning to the baseline level they were at when you began treatment.
