What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure that uses Cryolipolysis to freeze fat to reduce fat deposits in specific areas of the body.

What is CoolSculpting and How Does It Work?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure that uses Cryolipolysis to freeze fat to reduce fat deposits in specific areas of the body. In areas of the body that are not responsive to diet and exercise, CoolSculpting can reduce localized fat deposits or bulges. Cryolipolysis reduces the treated fat layer by as much as 25% percent. During the procedure, a vacuum applicator is placed on the skin to make direct contact with the cooling panels. Once the area is against the cooling panels, a patient will feel a cool sensation for a few minutes as it produces an anesthetic effect. The fat on the treated area is cooled for up to an hour to deliver the expected results. The common parts of the body people choose to have CoolSculpting on are the thighs, lower back, belly, and sides. CoolSculpting can also reduce the appearance of cellulite and reduce excess fat under the chin.

What Can I Expect?

CoolSculpting provides many benefits over traditional liposuction because it is non-surgical, non-invasive, and requires no recovery time. The patient can even drive themselves home after the treatment is completed. Since there is no downtime needed after CoolSculpting, you can return to your regular daily activities right away. When preparing for your CoolSculpting treatment, you will want to arrive in comfortable clothing to wear afterward. Disposable clothing is provided to you during the treatment, so no staining will occur on your clothing from the thick gel used for skin protection. Movement is limited during treatment, so it is recommended that you eat a light meal or snack beforehand and limit beverages and caffeine intake before your appointment. Many patients enjoy watching their favorite tv show or taking a nap to relax and remain still during their treatment.

Many patients have minimal discomfort following the procedure. However, deep itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness, cramping, nausea, bloating, muscle spasms, and soreness can occur. For up to four months after your procedure, a gradual reduction in the treated fat layer will appear. Frozen fat cells die and are excreted out of the body within a few weeks after treatment. Complete results of fat loss are noticeable within three months after CoolSculpting. It is important to remember that CoolSculpting is not a replacement for diet and exercise. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine after your procedure will help prevent weight gain. A follow-up CoolSculpting appointment is necessary three months after treatment. You will have “after” photos taken at this appointment and discuss the option of having additional future treatments to reach your desired sculpted body. Even though some people may see a dramatic change after one treatment, many clients require two or more sessions depending on what is being treated. More stubborn or more significant areas may need additional sessions.

CoolSculpting FAQ

How Do I Know if the CoolSculpting Procedure is for Me?

CoolSculpting is designed for anyone who wants to lose fat in certain areas. It is not a weight loss solution, so it is different than weight loss surgery or gastric bypass. It is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction. If you are considered obese, this procedure is not for you.

What Can CoolSculpting Treat on My Body?

The FDA clears CoolSculpting treatment in areas such as under the chin and jawline, thighs, abdomen, flank, back fat, underneath the buttocks, and upper arms.

How Long Does a CoolSculpting Treatment Take?

Each treatment is different. The duration depends on which areas of the body and how many are going to be treated. Treatment usually takes from 35 minutes to an hour per area.

Is CoolSculpting Safe?

CoolSculpting has been cleared by the FDA and is safe and effective. Some common side effects include temporary numbness, discomfort, and swelling. However, patients are allowed to return to their regular routine right after treatment.

How Much Does CoolSculpting Cost?

The cost of the treatment depends on what areas you have treated and how many treatments you have. A CoolSculpting provider can determine the exact cost of the procedure once they establish a treatment plan for you.
