Cryolipolysis Process
We begin the process with an assessment of the dimensions the patient seeks to treat. The doctor chooses the appropriate-size applicator and marks the area of concern on the patient. Once applied, the device vacuums the bulge into the hollow of the applicator.
The non-invasive treatment lasts about an hour as the cooling penetrates the skin to freeze and destroy the fat cells. No anesthesia is required.
Studies show while cryolipolysis decimates fat cells, the cold temperatures spare non-fat cells and other structures from injury. Dead, frozen cells excrete through the liver during the months after the procedure.
Patients generally pass the time watching television, reading, or on their phones. The initial part of the procedure may result in mild discomfort, but it quickly passes once the area becomes numb.
The non-invasive nature of the procedure allows for zero recovery time. Patients might experience mild soreness for a few days afterwards, but nothing that requires any extra rest or rehabilitation.
More than 80% of cryolipolysis patients experience significant improvements with a fat-layer reduction of up to 25%.
Light swelling, redness, and minor numbness can occur, but several studies have found no discernable long-term side effects.
After a few months, usually two to five months, the full results become apparent. The NIH found normalized, fat reduction of 20.4% at the two-month mark. The six-month mark unveiled a 25.5% fat reduction.
The elimination of the frozen, dead cells through the metabolic process takes time. But those unwanted cells are gone forever. Any fat that returns to that area is newly created. Healthy eating and exercise must persist to keep the fat away.
