Telehealth Dermatology Appointment Available

There are times in life when it’s difficult to visit one of our locations in person, and with the outbreak of COVID-19, now is one of those times. Fortunately, Derick Dermatology is now offering telehealth dermatology appointments.

Convenience

With teledermatology, your appointments become faster and easier. Obviously, you don’t have to drive to a physical location, or worry about finding a parking space during busy hours. Therefore, your appointments will be easier to schedule. You don’t need days when you’re free for an hour or longer. And wait times are usually lower for virtual appointments, too. Telehealth is especially helpful to people who have chronic skin conditions, and those with regularly scheduled appointments. If you’re one of those patients, your specialist may track your progress from a distance.

Plus, with a remote appointment, you won’t spend any time in a waiting room. As a result, whenever there’s a dangerous virus or other germ going around — such as the coronavirus — you’ll reduce your exposure to it.

Excellent Outcomes

Are you concerned that a telederm appointment would be less thorough than the in-person kind? In truth, for many patients, telemedicine can be just as effective as the traditional variety.

In fact, in 2012, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology compared a group of psoriasis patients that had in-person follow-up appointments to a group that relied on online follow-ups. When it came to their overall improvement, the two groups had generally the same outcomes.

Similarly, in 2018, the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California released the results of a teledermatology study. It found that psoriasis patients who used telehealth technologies had about the same outcomes as those who went to see dermatologists in person. And, in some of the cases, teledermatology led to marginally improved results.

Scheduling a Telehealth Dermatology Appointment

Here’s some good news: Your health insurance company will cover your telemedicine appointments. That’s because, on March 29, 2020, Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued an executive order instructing insurance providers to do so.

Derick Dermatology offers patients simple and fast telehealth appointment scheduling as well as leading-edge communication. Most important, our specialists are dedicated to providing meticulous, respectful, and empathetic care, whether or not they’re in the same room with you.
