Face washing tips you’re going to want to read

The Scoop on Face Washing

Washing your face is such a basic activity – you’ve done it since you were a child. But there really is a “best way” to wash your face to be sure it is cleansed properly and prepared to receive any creams, lotions, and other products in your skin care routine.

Some Face Washing Tips

Your face is exposed all day long to the environment and collects dust, irritants, smoke, and any other pollutants that may be floating around. In addition, makeup and sweat from daily activities (or working out) add to the grime building up on your face. We have some easy-to-follow tips on how to properly clean your face so your skin will be at its best. Be sure to wash your face when you get ready for the day ahead and again before bedtime. A clean face opens the way for the pores to receive moisturizers and other treatments.

  • Remove makeup first, using a gentle makeup remover
  • Splash your face and neck with lukewarm water to prepare the skin for cleanser
  • Use your fingertips to apply facial cleanser to your face and neck, using upward strokes
  • Splash your face and neck with cool water and gently rinse away the cleanser
  • Gently pat your face and neck dry with a clean towel

Never use generic bar soap or body soap to wash your face and neck because it is too harsh and can upset the pH balance of your skin, allowing bacteria and yeast growth to occur. Another no-no is using a washcloth and scrubbing the delicate skin of your face – use your fingertips instead. Using water that is too hot may feel good, but it can cause blood vessels to dilate and delicate tissues to break. Water that is too hot also deteriorates and can remove the oil barrier your skin needs to keep your skin healthy – which may cause flaking and itching as your skin dries out.

The time you invest in properly washing your face will also help to prevent acne breakouts and improve overall skin health.
